Detroit Regional News Hub is one of six “Road to Renaissance” strategies created by Detroit Renaissance Inc. to transform the region’s economy. The organization will place an emphasis on communicating under-reported information about the region’s growth, employment opportunities and quality of life to traditional media, trade press in industries that are strategic fits for the region and new media outlets.
Initial funding is primarily from Detroit Renaissance and the New Economy Initiative, a collaboration of foundations. Sorge assumes the role of executive director of the DNews in November 2008 and will report to a board of directors representing the funders, with a media advisory group of local news and media executives offering professional advice. During her career in journalism she covered all areas of the auto industry including boards of directors, financial, labor negotiations, new products, manufacturing and new business trends and the environment.
